Shipment Volume Was Only Part of the Challenge

The Greater Risk Was Losing Control of Product Data and Fulfillment Timing

The client operated across 114 countries, multiple languages, and more than 720 premium brands. Shipment creation depended on purchase order data being reviewed, validated, and completed fast enough to keep fulfillment moving.

The source documents varied substantially. Purchase orders ranged from a few pages to 50 pages, line-item density varied by vendor, and some PDFs were image-based or unreadable. Product codes, costs, quantities, composition details, FTA data, and portal requirements all had to align before shipment readiness could be confirmed.

Peak-season volume increased the risk. Delayed or inaccurate data could affect shipment timing, vendor updates, pricing accuracy, customer delivery expectations, and management visibility.

Temporary processing capacity would not create master list discipline, dual verification, mismatch reporting, dashboard visibility, or defined escalation paths. OCR alone would also be insufficient because captured data still required trained review and client-specific judgment.
